John W. Kuhns

John had a true strength behind his quiet ways.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. private interment will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.

There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.

 

John W. Kuhns, 68, of Columbia, passed away after an 18-month battle with metastatic kidney cancer at UMPC Lititz on January 9, 2024. He was the husband of Gina (Shenberger) Kuhns, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 12, 2024. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Chester J. and Rita C. (Whitcomb) Kuhns and was baptized at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he received his Eagle Scout award.

A graduate of Hempfield High School, Class of 1973, John was employed as a machinist and had worked for KD Tools, Caterpillar, GAM Mfg. and retired from Machined Products, Inc., Lancaster after 35+ years of service.

John had a true strength behind his quiet ways. A skilled handyman, he could fix anything. He loved building car models and rockets. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping and spending time at Ocean City, NJ and travels to Maine. In addition, he was a lifetime member of the Columbia Fish and Game.

Dad and Pop-Pop was so very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved them with his whole heart. They will miss him dearly.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Angela M. Gochnauer (Adam), East Petersburg; Erin R. Kuhns, New Cumberland; son, Jonathan A. Kuhns, Columbia. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Selina, Ashley, Stephanie, Ronan and Nathan and one great grandson, Harrison. He is also survived by his brother, Edward M. Kuhns, Hamlet, IN, sister-in-law, Barbara A. Kuhns, Columbia, his uncle John E. Kuhns, New Providence and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert B. Kuhns, sister-in-law Linda Kuhns and uncles Vincent and Alfred Kuhns.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel, officiating. Private interment will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the Columbia Fish and Game, PO Box 96, Silver Spring, PA 17575.
