John C. "Jack" Long, 86, a lifelong Columbia resident, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018. He was the husband of Marlene Garner Long with to he was married 61 years and was born to the late Harvey I. and Pearl Sarbaugh Long.
A 1950 graduate of Columbia High School, he proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. Jack retired in 1997 after 45 years of service from the ITT Grinnell Corp. where he was employed as an inspector.
A member of the Newtown United Methodist Church, he enjoyed reading, working on puzzles and rooting for the Philadelphia Phillies and Duke Blue Devils. Jack will be remembered by his family for his singing, expert whistling and hosting the family Christmas Eve gathering and their Fourth of July picnic.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Rick, husband of Molly Long, Hot Springs, AR; Kim, wife of Pastor Dan Blank, Marietta; Andy, of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Jenny, Curt, Emily, Luke; four great-grandchildren and sister, Betty Hawk, Columbia. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Long and Ruth Baker.
A funeral service will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Wrightsville, PA. Friends may view at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions to the Newtown U.M.
