John H. Raber

U.S. Navy Veteran, proudly served during WWII in Pacific Theater Operations.

Funeral Services: Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

John H. Raber, 92, of Marietta, formerly of Chester, VA passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at home. He was the husband of the late Minnie Hamilton Raber with whom he was married 58 years until her death in 2006. Born in Bainbridge, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Elizabeth Engle Raber.

A U.S. Navy veteran, John proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He retired after 41 years of the service from the Department of Defense, Richmond VA. He previously worked at the former Marietta and Middletown Depots. A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marietta, he was also a member of the F&AM #94, Chester, VA and enjoyed playing pinochle.

He is survived by his sisters, Frances Cranford, Rose McNaughton and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene, Bobby, Paul, Helen, Sally, Jenny, Edith, Grace and Pauline.

Funeral services will be held from the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1290 River Road, Marietta, PA 17547 on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Traci Benditz Glover, officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Silver Spring Cemetery. Family and friends may view at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
