Katie Gochenaur Smith, 35, of Columbia passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 10th, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lancaster to Steve and Jenny Gochenaur and was a lifelong resident of this area. Katie was a graduate of Hempfield High School with the Class of 2002 and went on to graduate from Millersville University in 2008. She began her teaching career as the art teacher at Columbia High School before putting that on hold to raise her family. Katie enjoyed visiting the beaches of south Jersey and Maryland with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who treasured spending time with her family.

Katie leaves behind her husband, Nate Smith; her children, Hudson and Tenley Smith; her parents, Steve and Jenny Gochenaur; brother, Tom, husband of Angie Gochenaur; mother and father-in-law, Hub and Deb Smith; brother-in-law, Dave Smith; sisters-in-law, Rachael, wife of Rob Kedney and Morgan Smith; nephew and niece to be, Devon and Ophelia Gochenaur; her best friend, Rachael Arnold; a large extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Cooper Thomas Smith.

Services for Katie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17th, 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. until service time.  Katie will be laid to rest at Holy trinity Catholic Cemetery in a private ceremony at a later date.
