Sister Marian Russo, ASC, 76, passed away on February 1, 2020 in Ruma, IL. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Marian Strenck Steele and the late Gaston Strenck. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Harold Steele.

Sister Marian made her first profession as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ in St. Joseph's Convent, Columbia in 1968 and given her religious name as Sister Mary Sebastian. Her ministries included primary school teacher, business class teacher at St. Joseph's Academy, secretarial assignments, administration assistant and convent archivist.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother, Arthur Russo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel of St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining convent cemetery. Dennis M. Fritz, 73, of York passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 31st, 2020. He was born in Lancaster to the late Lester and Bernice Fritz and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Dennis attended Columbia High School and graduated from Hempfield High School with the Class of 1964. He proudly served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Dennis was the former owner of his own company Fabbco before becoming the general manager of Formit Metals. He also was a member of the Mountville Lions Club and the Mountville Fire Company. Dennis enjoyed being outdoors, visiting the beach, and treasured spending time with his family. He was known to always put everyone else first.

Dennis leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Freda Fritz of York; his son Todd, husband of Ellie Fritz of York; three grandchildren, Casey Fritz of Traverse City, MI, Zachary Fritz, and Samantha Fritz both of York; his sister, Deborah McCallin of Dover; his grand-dog, Banner; many friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Fritz.

Wayne Alan DeVan, 68, of Landisville passed away on January 29th, 2020. He was born in Windber, PA to the late John, Jr. and Elizabeth DeVan.

Wayne proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. Following his service, he attended and earned his undergraduate from Penn State University before earning his Master’s Degree, with honors, from Virginia Tech.

Following his education, Wayne became the Director of Public Works for Elizabethtown Boro and served in that role for 42 years until his retirement in June of 2019. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was known to be an excellent craftsman with a gift for woodworking. Wayne was a faithful member and volunteer at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. He adored his family and treasured spending time with them, especially at Virginia Beach.

Wayne leaves behind his wife of almost 34 years, Sherri DeVan of Landisville; his daughters, Kari, wife of Douglas Prendergast of Doylestown, Mallaree DeVan of Landisville; his step-son, David, husband of Michelle Turnquist of California; three grandchildren, Haelee, Emma, and Chloee; his brother, John, husband of Sally DeVan of Virginia Beach, VA; mother-in-law, Shirley Koehler of Hastings, NE; sister-in-law, Lori Koehler of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law, Jim Bedois of Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews and a large group of family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Jean Debois.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Petersburg Rd, Lititz, PA 17543. Irvin Witmer, Jr., 87, formerly of Manor Township, passed away on January 24, 2020 at Masonic Village where he had resided for the past 15 years. He was the husband of Mary Stoner Witmer; they were married on May 9, 1953. Born in Manor Township, he was the son of the late Irvin D. and Elizabeth Bongart Witmer.

He retired after 40 years of service from the Atlantic Richfield (Sunoco) Company where was employed as a truck driver. After retirement, Irvin worked for Elite Coach as a tour bus driver and for the Manheim Auto Auction. He graduated from the Manor-Millersville High School in 1951 and was member of the F & AM, Lodge #236 where he was a 32nd degree Mason. In addition, he a was a member of the Mountville Lions Club and enjoyed woodworking in the woodshop at Masonic Village.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Carol, wife of Harry Bechtold, Jr.; Cathy, wife of Dean Putt; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Hoch. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Harry Bechtold, III and his sister, Leonora Groff Herrington.

Funeral services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jan Latshaw officiating. Private interment will be held in the Habecker Mennonite Cemetery. Family and friends may view on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Lena loved her home on the Menoher Highway in Johnstown, PA, where she and her husband raised their three children.

Lena then moved to Lancaster County in 2003 following the death of her husband Charles L. Atkins. She lived at the St. John’s Herr Estate for a number of years before spending her final years at Luther Acres. Lena enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and helping others through her volunteering. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured spending time with her family. Lena was a member of Westmont Church of the Brethren and the Menoher Heights Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.

Lena leaves behind her children, Karen, wife of Ronald Michnya of Landisville; Larry, husband of Ramona Atkins of Charlotte, NC; Walter, husband of Denise Atkins of Johnstown, PA; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dale Shank and Ada Stiger.

A celebration of Lena’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 in the Chapel at Luther Acres, 600 E. Main St, Lititz, PA 17543. Elanor retired after many years of service from the office of the Harold E. Smith Company, Lancaster. She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia. She will be remembered by her family as a vibrant loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to dance and being in the company of her family and friends.

Elanor is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Henry; son-in law, Gregory K. Wagner husband of Vicki; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Horn and his wife Rita. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy J. Wagner and siblings, John and Cletus Horn, Julia Divet and M. Ruth Shenberger.

Doris Fay Trussell of Mennonite Home Community Lancaster passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday January 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dick.

Born in Gettysburg to J. Marshall Cleveland and Gladys Cleveland, she was the eldest of five siblings.

Doris was a proud retiree of AMP Inc. with over 25 years of service. Doris was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster for many years and spent much time volunteering with many charitable organizations such as Alpha Club of Lancaster and the Water Street Rescue Mission.

A published poet, Doris filled her time at Mennonite Home writing and reflecting on life.

She and Dick enjoyed extensive travel, visiting such countries as Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, England, France as well as a trip sponsored by Radio Beijing, to mainland China in the early 80's.

She is survived by two children, a son, David C., husband of Dannielle (Leeds) Trussell of Landisville, Pa; and a daughter, Diana; two grandsons, Eric D. Trussell of Lebanon, Pa., and Brian T. Trussell of East Petersburg, Pa. and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Phyllis Smith of Michigan and a brother Gerald Cleveland of Florida.

There will be a private family gathering but memorial donations can be made in Doris's memory to the Mennonite Home Benevolent Fund at 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, Pa. 17601.

Millie was a graduate of the former Maytown High School with the Class of 1947 where she was a cheerleader. She worked for many years in the claims department at Donegal Mutual Insurance Company before her retirement.

Millie enjoyed baking and playing cards. Her love in life were her cats Ollie, Cuddles, Cubby and Precious, her church, Community Bible Church, and her family. She was involved with her children’s activities and served as a den mother in Cub Scouts and in the P.T.A. She adored her children and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured spending time with them.

Millie leaves behind her children, Ruth, wife of Anthony Simione of Dagsboro, DE, Butch, husband of Suzette McCarty of Mount Joy, Ron McCarty of Marietta, Mike, husband of Cindy McCarty of Marietta; six grandchildren, Andy, Andrea, Kyle, Derek, Shawn, and Scott, fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Laura Bish of Marietta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Duke” McCarty in 1988 and two siblings, Vernie McLain and Wick Walters.

Gilbert B. Zink, 60, of York, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care. He was the husband of Melody Barnett Zink with whom he was married 39 years. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Dale Keller and Beatrice Zink who survives.

A retired truck driver, he was employed for 22 years at A. Duie Pyle Transportation Co. He was an avid Steelers fan, enjoyed fishing and hunting, but enjoyed being with his family and friends the most, especially his granddaughters.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Lynette Zink; Zachary Zink; Arron Zink and five granddaughters.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, 845 Laurel Hill Road, Columbia PA 17512.

Kenneth V. Mable, 78, of Wrightsville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 12, 2020. He was the husband of the late Jane Hanrahan Mable, with whom he was married 48 years until her death in 2011. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Martha Bisker Mable.

Ken retired in 1997 after a lifetime career at Armstrong World Industries. In addition, he owned and operated Mable Printing and Graphics. 

He was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Columbia and was particularly active in the Holy Name Society having been presented the “Man of the Year”.  Ken was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2294, Columbia; Columbia Fraternal Association; V.F.W. Post 7045, York and the American Legion Post 469, Wrightsville.

Ken was a fun-loving man, and was always there for his family and friends. Anyone who knew Ken has been blessed with fond memories.

Ken is survived by his children, Kenneth T. Mable, husband of Lori; Deborah L. Mable; Michael S. Mable, husband of Laura; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Jean, wife of Larry Smith; Josie, wife of Robert Engle and George Mable, husband of JoAnn. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas Mable and Mary Maurer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St. Columbia PA 17512 on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn, Celebrant. Paul Edward Stark, 97, of Mount Joy passed away at his residence on October 8th, 2019. He was born in Princeton, NJ to the late Harry A. and Mary Skillman Stark. Paul was a graduate of Princeton High School with the Class of 1941 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He worked as an assembly line foreman for 44 years at Mack Trucks before his retirement in 1988. Paul also owned and managed Stark’s Orchard in Shippensburg from 1963 – 2006. He was known to be handy and was able to sew, remodel, work with wood, and fix just about anything. Paul will be remembered for his hard work and his witty sense of humor.

Paul leaves behind his sons, Richard Paul Stark of Shippensburg, Jim, husband of Vikki stark of Mount Joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L. Stark in 2017; three brothers and a sister.

Annabel L. Greenly, 86, formerly of Elizabethtown, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Masonic Village where she resided for the past three years. Prior to moving to Masonic Village, she resided at the Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Frank H. Greenly, who preceded her in death in 2017. Born in Lebanon County, she was the daughter of the late John and Etta Rineer Stehman.

Annabel enjoyed camping and fishing with her late husband Frank, enjoyed gardening, canning and collecting dolls. She will be remembered by her family for her keen sense of humor. Most of all, she loved caring for her grandchildren.

Her family extends their appreciation to the staff of Masonic Village and Masonic Village Hospice for the excellent care provided to Annabel.

She is survived by her children, Timothy Greenly (Lynn); Lori Sellers (Barry); Jeffrey Greenly (Lois); Thomas Greenly; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; sister, Joanne Fogie. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson and siblings, John, Jay, Fern Kelton, Dolores Byers, Ruth Smith and Jean Waybright.

Eyla Reynolds Summar Tolson, 81, of Columbia, passed away on January 5, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care. She was the wife of Gordon J. Tolson with whom she was married 14 years. Born in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Norman E. Reynolds.

Eyla graduated from Townville High School, Class of 1960 and Indiana State College in 1964 where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics Education. She later received a Master's Degree from Delaware University in fabric study.

She taught home economics in the Columbia Boro School District for two years followed by 18 years in the Solanco School District at the intermediate school. During summer recess, she volunteered at the Lancaster General Health Campus front desk where she would give directions, push people on their wheelchairs or escort them to their destinations.

Eyla was an active member of the Westgate Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and held most of the elected and appointed positions at one time or another. Her hobbies included gardening and designing flower baskets.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Oak Leaf Manor North and Hospice and Community Care for the excellent care given to Eyla.

In addition to her husband Gordon, she is survived by three brothers, Paul Reynolds, Stow OH; Lynn Reynolds, Pittsburgh; Leroy Reynolds, Townville; sister, Naomi Diamond, Wadsworth, OH.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westgate Baptist Church, 2235 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster PA 17601 with Pastor Robert Zimmerman, officiating, Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may view at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Theodore “Ted” Johnson, 76, of Columbia passed away on January 4th, 2020. He was born in Lancaster to the late Alvin, Sr. and Inez Johnson and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Ted attended and graduated from Columbia High School before proudly serving in the United States Army. Following his service, he worked as a welder before starting his own company, Johnson Inc. in 1988. Ted was also Past Commander of the Veterans Council, Harvey T. Makle Post 722, and the Amvets Post 153. He was a member of the VFW Post 2435 and the American Legion Post 372.

Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who treasured spending time with his family.

Ted leaves behind his wife of almost 48 years, Kay Johnson of Columbia; his sons, Lance, husband of Christina Johnson of York, Todd Johnson of Hellam; six grandchildren, Shannon, Aliana, Aiden, Lucas, Drex, and Xavier; his brother, Alvin, Jr., husband of Emily Johnson of Maryland.

Services for Ted will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11th, 2020 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial, with military honors, will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. James T. Graham, Sr, 67, of Hellam Township passed away on January 4th, 2020. He was born in Columbia to the late Marshall and Betty Graham and was a lifelong resident of this area. James attended and graduated from Penn Manor High School and worked for 41 years at Colonial Metals where he was the maintenance supervisor. He was handy and talented and could fix anything. James enjoyed traveling to the beach and also camping. He was passionate about Harley’s, bikes, and Chevy’s. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who treasured spending time with his family.

James leaves behind his wife over 26 years, Anne Graham of Hellam Township; his children, James, Jr, husband of Amanda Graham of Marietta, Sabina, wife of J.R. Mattern of Marietta, Barry Graham of Elizabethtown, Rebeca, wife of Dylan Salsgiver of Hallam; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Adrian, Turtle, Mackenzie, Noah, Parker, and Chesney; four siblings, John Graham of York, Ace, husband of Nancy Graham of Washington Boro, Jake, husband of Betsy Graham of Washington Boro, Betty, wife of Gary Wiseman of Washington Boro; his canine companion, Bella; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Barry and Marshall Graham.
