Carl August Haug, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1st, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born in Columbia to the late Carl Albert Haug and Anna Catherine Fisher and was the husband of the late Anna A. Haug who passed away in 2012. Raised in Ironville, Carl attended a one room school house and Concordia Lutheran Church. He graduated from Columbia High School with the Class of 1942 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was sent to the South Pacific and was stationed in New Guinea and the Admiralty Islands. Carl retired from RCA in 1985 as a test set electrician. Most older Columbians remember him as "Haugie" as he operated a TV repair shop for many years while working for RCA. Carl loved being with family and always looked forward to family gatherings. He enjoyed food and eating out, especially at Texas Roadhouse. Carl loved sitting by the river and sitting on his bench at home, relaxing in the sun. He looked forward to watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights.
Carl is survived by his eight children, Carla, wife of the late Carl Lindnberger of Columbia, Judy, wife of Bill Clark of Columbia, James, husband of Paula Haug of Columbia, Donna Haug of Columbia, Cathy, wife of George Berdiner of Millersville, Sue Wieler, wife of Don Gauntner of Seven Valleys, Sharon, wife of Larry Herr of Washington Boro, Jody, wife of Robert Croft of Washington Boro; nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Haug, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Services for Carl will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7th, 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial with military honors will follow at Silver Spring Cemetery.
