Fikreyesus Bekele
Fikreyesus Bekele was born on November 12, 1942 in Agaro, Ethiopia. In his early years, he taught at an elementary school. After attaining an associate degree in Public Health, he went into the healthcare field by opening a pharmacy to serve the underprivileged in the rural area of the country. He did that for 30 years, and it is still operating to this day. After migrating to the U.S. he became a Direct Support Professional (DSP) with Keystone Human Services to fulfill his desire to help people.
After attending a Bible Seminary, he was asked to teach at the theological institute given his ability to relay God’s word and relate to people. He went on to found Kale Heywet Evangelical Church in Yebu, Jimma, Ethiopia where he was the Preacher and leader. Noticing a need to spread the Word in rural areas, he established six other affiliate churches that he still supported financially even after his migration to the USA. Most notably, he sent three youth servants of God to bible college with full financial scholarship. In the US, he co-founded Light of the World Evangelical Church in Lancaster, PA and served in various leadership roles. He also spread the gospel in any capacity he was able to from sermonizing to congregations to talking to the casual stranger on the street due to his love of Christ.
He had many interests and hobbies that included playing professional soccer as well as being a federal level soccer referee. His most fulfilling pastime was volunteerism. He volunteered at numerous non-profits in both countries and gave his time to assist local community foundations that helped the underserved. He even went down south to help with Hurricane Katrina’s cleanup.
