Fred L. Dinkel, 83, formerly of Washington Boro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where had resided for the past ten months. Born in Norwood, West Hempfield Township, he was the son of the late August and Anna Kauffman Dinkel.
A graduate of Columbia High School, he served in the U.S Army and was last employed as a production worker at Turkey Hill Dairy, Conestoga. Earlier in his life he worked as a floral designer at various area flower shops.
He was a member of the Washington Boro United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a leader for the M.Y.F. Fred enjoyed raising exotic plants, spending time on the Susquehanna River, going to auctions and collecting of all types.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Krafft and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, August “June” Dinkel; Edward K. Dinkel, Sr.; sisters, Ruth Raezer and Mary Ann Henry.
Funeral services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St. Columbia PA on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Carlene Wolf, officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may view at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred’s memory may be made to the Washington Boro U.M. Church, 1964 Water St. PO Box 57, Washington Boro PA 17582.
