Greg was an avid tennis player and runner.

Services for Greg will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 23 S. 6th St., Columbia, PA 17512.

The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Burial, with military honors, will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens.

 

Gregory L. Smith, 80 of Columbia, passed away on Friday January 24, 2025. He was the husband of Brenda (Brommer) Smith, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Paul R. Smith and Charlotte Smith Dombach. 

Greg was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Columbia. He was also a 1962 graduate of Columbia High School and served in the US Army as a Sgt serving as an Armor Intelligence Specialist with the 4th Bn., 35 Armor Ground Surveillance Team in Germany. After his service, he dedicated over 30 years to working at Armstrong World Industries and Kerr Glass.

Greg was an avid tennis player and runner. He competed in several marathons, ½ marathons, and triathlons over the years. Greg was a devoted and caring grandfather to his five grandchildren, finding his greatest joy in watching them excel in their sports. He also had a great interest in Civil War and First World War history and collected many artifacts from both periods.

He is survived by his son, Keary R, husband of Jodi Smith of Columbia, as well as his daughter, Jennifer S, wife of Kevin Kauffman of Mountville. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Dylan and Brady Smith, and Connor, Ethan, and Julia Kauffman.
