He was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia and sang in the church choir for many years. He sang in the Lancaster Red Rose Chorus along with many area barber shop quartets and was a member of the SPEBSQSA.

Richard C. Eck, 88, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Penn Medicine LGH. He was the husband of Bonnie Schmidt Eck with whom he would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on August 24th. Born in Dallastown, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Bernadine Lawrence Eck.

Dick served his country in the U.S Army. Following his military service, he worked as an HVAC technician for H.M. Stauffer and Son. After retiring, he was self-employed as a property investor. He was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia and sang in the church choir for many years. He sang in the Lancaster Red Rose Chorus along with many area barber shop quartets and was a member of the SPEBSQSA.

In addition to his wife are his children, Andrew J. husband of Cori Eck; Gerard T. husband of Wendy Eck; Gregory A. husband of Yvonne Eck; Mary L. wife of Sean Noone; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a sister Emily Hoover. He was preceded in death by 12 siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Augustine Joseph, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Peter's St. Vincent de Paul Society would be deeply appreciated.

Sally Lee Ott, formerly of Lititz, Pennsylvania, passed away after a brief illness at the ProMetica Manor Care Nursing home on July 24, 2022, at the age of 82.  Born in Columbia, Pennsylvania on October 2, 1939, she was the daughter of Lewis G. and Pauline Ott.  Sally retired from the Lancaster School District where she taught elementary school children for many years.  She later accepted a role as a councilor helping troubled children.  

She was married to Don Ringer and Don Keenan who both predeceased her.

Sally is survived by three sisters:  Lois Englehart of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Paula Leonardi of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and Deborah Ott of Nocatee, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Broome of Columbia Pennsylvania.  In addition to her sisters, Sally is survived by a cousin Cynthia Forster and her husband Jeff Forster of New Jersey, her children Lynn Schaffner and Peter Ringer, both of Pennsylvania as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sally graduated from Columbia High School in 1957 winning a scholarship to attend Millersville College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Sally loved teaching.  After retiring she became a civil war reenactor and enjoyed visiting civil war sites. She was an avid ancestry researcher and enjoyed exploring family history.  She doted on her cats, Molly and Snoopy and enjoyed making holiday dinners, baking cookies, and decorating for Christmas. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

She will be missed by all those who loved her. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, Pa on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 1pm. Arrangements by Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Columbia/Landisville.

Carlene spent much of her time in her yard gardening, especially tending to her rose bushes. She loved listening to loud music and shopping from QVC. She enjoyed going to Disney World and to the shore at Wildwood, NJ.

Carlene is survived by her daughters, Denise Delmotte and Christine Stedman, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son James E. Weaver, III.

Margaret attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and Lancaster Catholic High School. She worked as an inspector for the former Kahn-Lucas Manufacturing until her eventual retirement. Margaret enjoyed tending to her flowers and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed shopping with her sister, Agnes. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who adored her family and treasured spending time with them.

Margaret leaves behind her husband of sixty-four years Norm Tillman of Columbia; two daughters, Robin, wife of Kevin Wallace of Manheim, Paula Amsley, fiancé of Kristine Barshinger of Mount Wolf; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a sister, Agnes, wife of Bob Blessing of Wrightsville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Moore; a grandson, Eric Wallace; a daughter-in-law, Crystal Amsley; three siblings.

Alfred S. Kuhns, 83, of Columbia, passed away at home on Friday, July 15, 2022. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Chester Kuhns, Sr. And Zelma (Henry) Kuhns. He was the husband of Georgia L. Kuhns, who preceded him in death in 2003.  

Alfred graduated from Columbia High School, class of 1958. He retired from Kahn Lucas in 2002, where he worked as a supervisor in the piece goods department. He also spent time working as a cook for Bill’s Restaurant. Alfred was a very active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Columbia and was known as “Father’s right hand man”. He loved to cook and garden, and enjoyed working on puzzles. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his Christmas cookies and peanut butter eggs, and for his famous expression, “Ain’t that awful”. Most of all, Alfred had so much love for his family, especially his granddaughter. 

Alfred is survived by his daughters, Denise, wife of Bill Kaufhold; Teresa Kuhns; a granddaughter, Georgetta Kaufhold; and a brother, John Kuhns. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Kuhns, Jr. and Vincent Kuhns.  

Service details for Alfred are as follows: There will be a viewing from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022; a viewing from 10am-11am on Friday, July 22, 2022; and a funeral service at 11AM on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Clyde W. Janet Keener, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Emily (Heistand) Myers. She was the wife of Thomas Keener, who passed away in 1999.  

Janet was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1957. She was an active member and volunteer with the Columbia VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She found joy in helping others and often volunteered for various charities. Janet loved being around children and enjoyed spending time taking care of them in her home and while working for Little People Daycare. She was a lifelong Columbian who was proud of her small town. She was very family oriented, especially when it came to her grandchildren, whom she adored more than anything. Janet was a social butterfly and looked forward to her weekly “girls' night” with friends. Her family will remember her for her love of cooking, dancing, oldie rock and roll music, and above all, her family.  

Janet is survived by her son, Don Yeager; daughter, Connie Yeager, wife of Len Orbovich; her grandchildren, Anthony Yeager, L.J., Stefan, and Emily Orbovich; and siblings, Richard Myers, Muriel Scott, Gary Myers, and Shirley Halter. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Yeager; son Gary Yeager; daughter in law, Pamela Yeager; and siblings, Pete Myers, and Jane Myers.

Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late John H. and Lizzie Gipe Koser. John retired in 1984 after 30 years of service from Caterpillar where he was employed as a millwright. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and took great pride in his flower beds.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy, Ervin, Paul, Arthur, and his sister Anna Mae Bigler.

Carol O'Donnell, 79, formerly of Columbia, passed away on July 5, 2022 at Penn Medicine LGH. She was the wife of the late James O'Donnell who preceded her in death in 1998. Born in Columbia she was the daughter of the late William and Rosalia Shultz.

Carol was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1960. Prior to her retirement she was employed in advertising at Armstrong World Industries and was a clerical supervisor at the Lancaster County Office of the Aging. She was a member of the Short 60's and enjoyed cooking and artistic painting.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Geiman; LeeAnne Eshelman; grandchildren, Cameron Eshelman (Lexi Weinstein); Evan Geiman (Tyler Cook); Josalyn Geiman (Devon Dombrowski) Adam Eshelman; great granddaughter Freya Eshelman; sister Janice Shultz and best friend and neighbor Bonnie Huleatt. Her brother LCpl William Shultz preceded her in death.

Over the years, she worked at several retail stores and retired at age 82 from Save Mart after 30 years of service.

MJ loved her family with all her heart as they loved her. She loved family get togethers, listening to hymns, especially How Great Thou Art by Elvis, playing Canasta, cross-stitching and crossword puzzles along with the occasional trip to Hollywood.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda wife of David Rockstroh with whom she resided; Jere husband of Kate Carpenter, Lewes, DE; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and her kitty cat "Roamer." Her siblings, Enos, Jr., Richard, Joseph and Patricia (Grier) Finefrock preceded her in death.

Scott Allen Fry, 53, of Columbia passed away on June 24, 2022. He was born in Columbia to the Late Chester Fry and Marlene Stumpf and was a lifelong resident of Columbia. Scott was a graduate of Columbia High School and worked for many years with the Turkey Hill dairy and J.R. Transportation. He was also a longtime member of the Columbia Borough Fire Department (hambones) and loved his Steelers, Penn State, and Flyers. Scott was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his family and treasured spending time with them.

Richard E. "Dick" Horn, 97, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. He was the husband of Rita Keys Horn with whom he celebrated 75 years of marriage on May 10th. A lifelong Columbia resident, he was the son of the late John A. and Margaret Kruschinsky Horn.

Dick graduated from the former Holy Trinity Catholic School and was a 1943 graduate of Columbia High School and later served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a certified watchmaker with Hamilton Watch Company for ten years and later joined the former Motter Supply Company as store manager specializing in retail hardware and supplies. He spent most of his career at Herr & Company, Lancaster where he served in sales and management positions and eventually as President of the company. He retired from RKB Enterprises where he was Regional Sales Manager.

A member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church he was a former President of the Pastor's Advisory Board and served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for 24 years. He served as a lector and was a member of the Holy Name Society and was an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He served two, three-year terms as President of the Diocesan Council of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and in 1994, he was instrumental in helping to reorganize the society within the Harrisburg Diocese.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Christine H. wife of Donald L. Sylvester; Joanne H. wife of John "Bot" Roda; David R. husband of Cherie (Hart) Horn; Barbara L. wife of Kyle DiBrito; grandchildren, Katharine L. Roda, Zachary B. Roda and partner Veronica Jancuk, Sandy wife of Bryan Delahunty, Marcus DiBrito and fiance Michelle Huth; great grandson, Luka James. He was preceded in death by his siblings, John P. Horn, Cletus J. Joan loved spending time with her children and grandchildren

Joan L. Fry passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Elva Hinkle of Wrightsville, PA.  Joan lived most of her life in Columbia, PA and retired from St Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia, PA.  She was a member of the Wrightsville Assembly of God in Wrightsville, PA.

Joan loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed working on puzzles and joking with the staff and other residents of Kelly Manor SpiritTrust Lutheran.

Joan is survived by her children Joseph husband of Antoinette (Deascenti) Fry of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Sharon wife of David Strandberg of Athol, ID and James husband of Megan (Forney) Fry of Red Lion, PA.  Also surviving are her grandchildren Nicole Hornreich, Ryan and Justin Fry, and her great grandchildren Bria and Ayden Hornreich.  She is also survived by her brother Rick husband of Mary (Scantling) Hinkle and her sisters Debra wife of John Jacobs, and Sue wife of Dan Peters.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Nancy and her brothers Edgar Jr., Eugene, and Larry.

There will be a public visitation starting at 10:00am with the funeral service at 11:00am on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA.  Interment will take place immediately after the service at Fairview Cemetery, Wrightsville, PA.

Heather Renee Gower, 32, of Washington Boro, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Born in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Maria & Brian Kanach of Boyertown and Dennis & Monica Gower of Canton. 

At the time of her death, Heather was employed by Johnson Controls as an industrial technician. She was a graduate of Millersville University where she played rugby and after graduation coached the Millersville Women’s Rugby Team. She was a member of the Blue Rock Fire and Rescue Company and the American Legion Post 34. Heather loved river life along with fishing and duck hunting. 

In addition to her parents, she is survived by partner Tedi Carbaugh; grandparents John & Carole Kanach, grandmother Beverly Walters; siblings, Hayley Kanach, Timothy Gower (Renee), Joshua Gower, Jesse Gower (Haley); nephews, Hayden, Leighton Gower; uncle, John Thornton (Sherri); aunts, Nikki Thornton, Stephanie Kanach; cousins, Brittney Wilcox (Tanner), Jamie Kanach (Collin), Nichole Kanach, Theresa Blanton (Zack), Michaela Thornton, Ronan Wilcox, River Kanach; best friend Eric Reisinger, John Meacham.

A celebration of Mary Lou’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 1, 2022 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home

Mary Lou Lawson, 82, of Columbia passed away on June 10, 2022. She was born in Columbia to the late Amos B. and Helen C. (Hartman) Murry and was a lifelong resident of Columbia. Mary Lou was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School with the Class of 1958 where she was a member of the Sewing and Library Clubs. She worked at Schick until they closed in 1981. She then had her own craft business for the next fourteen years; her wreaths can still be seen around Columbia. Mary Lou was always proud of the way she kept her lawn and gardens, and her home beautiful. She was an avid dog lover and adored her Airedale Terriers, Ashley, Max, and Tucker. Mary Lou was a lifelong and faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband of Fifty-eight years, Thomas Lawson; two children, Michael M., husband of Carole Lawson, Tracy L., wife of James Yeand; four grandchildren, Ryan and Kelly Lawson, Mark and Jessica Yeand; one sister Anne Gerz, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a Sister, Holly Oatman, and a brother, Harold "Brumpie" Murry.,

A celebration of Mary Lou’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 1, 2022 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. Father Augustine Joseph will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. until service time. Mary Lou’s family would like to thank her caregivers and hospice for their compassion and kindness with Mary Lou’s care for over three years. Mass of Christian Burial: Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, PA on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Private burial will be held in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.

Teresa M. O'Donnell, 62, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 surrounded by her family at Hospice and Community Care. A lifelong Columbia resident, she was the daughter of James H. Wagner, Columbia and the late Mary Elizabeth McCarty Wagner.

Teri dedicated her life and her heart to teaching, receiving a B.S. in Early Education/Early Childhood from Shippensburg University. After impacting students at St. Peter's Catholic School, Churchill County School District in Nevada, Manheim Central School District, and Holy Trinity Catholic School, Teri spent the majority of her career at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School.

Whether in the classroom or at home, her door was always open. She welcomed anyone who needed an ear to listen, food to eat, or a place to sleep.

With her family, Teri was the life of the party, bringing games, music, and positivity to holidays and vacations. These memories will last forever. As a mother, Teri's love was unmatched and unwavering.

In addition to her father are her children, Kelly O'Donnell, Philadelphia; Tim O'Donnell, McConnellsburg; sisters, Beth wife of Scott Barnhart, York; Lisa wife of Mark Graham, Lancaster; Barbara wife of Paul Patterson, Wayne, NJ; and brother Jim husband of Lori Wagner, Lancaster.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, Celebrant. Private burial will be held in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
