Emma E. Green

On her 100th birthday, Emma Green Day was declared by the mayor of Columbia.

Services: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

She will rest beside her late husband in Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Wrightsville.

 

Emma E. Green, 106, of Columbia, passed away on June 4, 2024. She was born in Columbia to the late Kathleen Brown and was a lifelong resident of Columbia. Emma was one of two Black students to graduate from Columbia High School with the Class of 1936 and attended Millersville University later in life.

Beginning at age ten, she had many jobs, including building airplanes at the former Marietta Depot, being a loving nanny, and being a teacher's aide. Following her retirement at 74, Emma volunteered her time with election polls. On her 100th birthday, Emma Green Day was declared by the mayor of Columbia. She was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Paul's Baptist Church, where she served as Secretary of the Missionary Circle and was part of the Trinitarians, Columbia Senior Center, and the Deborah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Emma was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who adored her family and treasured spending time with them. 

Emma leaves behind two children, Dorcas Green of Columbia and Marvin Henson of Harrisburg; a sister, Elaine, wife of Gerald Poindexter of Buellton, CA; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Green, in 1979 and seven siblings.

Services for Emma will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. She will rest beside her late husband in Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Wrightsville.
