Ronald G. Baldner, 80, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Born in St. Thomas, PA, he was the son of the late Milton and Rhoda (Breckbill) Baldner. He was the loving husband of Julie (Mountz) Baldner, with whom he celebrated 15 years of marriage on February 24. 

Ron graduated from St. Thomas High School, class of 1960. His first job was at Turkey Hill Dairy before going to work as a truck driver for Motor Freight in York then eventually moving on to Southern Container. Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing up in Perry County and smoking his pipe and cigars. He loved animals, especially his cats. He bravely fought and won the battle against cancer in his younger years. Ron will be remembered for being a kind, generous, and giving person and he will be missed greatly. 

In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his son, Shawn Baldner (Pomice), of Lancaster; stepson, Stanley Singer (Alyssa); stepdaughter, Sevannah Singer Heiser (Eddie); grandchildren, Zoey Stoltzfus, Ronnie Baldner, Katie Singer, Reilly Singer, Dawson Singer, Tanisha White, Nathan White, Devon Echternach; brothers, Kenneth Baldner, of St. Thomas, PA; Glen Baldner, of MI; close friend, Randy Huber, Sr., of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A funeral service will be held at 3:30pm on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut Street, Columbia. There will be a viewing starting at 2:00 pm. James Robert Smoker, II, of Columbia passed away on May 31, 2022. He was born in Columbia to the late James and Leatha Smoker and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Known as “Jim Bob” to his family and Jim or “Smoke” to everyone else who knew him, he was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 1962 and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret with the Special Forces. Following his service, he worked with the former United Telephone/Sprint until his eventual retirement. Jim loved his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, whom he adored above anything else and treasured spending time with them. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed all of nature and the outdoors. Jim had many hobbies like cooking, woodworking, and making knives as gifts for others. He was a proud and active member of the Vet 21 Salute Honor Guard.

Jim leaves behind his wife of twenty-three years, Joyce Smoker of Columbia; his daughter, Maren, wife of Patrick Crucitt of Broadview Heights, OH; three grandchildren, Katie, Claire, and Caroline Crucitt; three sisters, Melanie, wife of Keith Skotnicki of York, Eileen, wife of the late Dennis Scion of Friendsville, TX, Beth, wife of David McGrath of Mooresville, NJ; “adopted sorta son”, Kevin Traister of Mountville. Several nieces and nephews and many friends.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Harold K. Yoder, Landisville, PA, went to be present with his Lord at the age of 90. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and a friend to many.

He was born on March 29, 1932, in Barto, PA, to Henry and Elizabeth Yoder. Harold was married to Ruth (Ruthie) Miller Yoder from 1956 until her passing in 2002 and is survived by his wife, Josephine (Jodi) Hartzell Yoder, who he married in 2005.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, his son, Kent, and his brother, Henry Paul Yoder.

Harold is survived by his children, Kevin Yoder and wife Carole, Kathy Shaheen and husband Thomas, Kristopher Yoder and wife Joyce, stepson, Matthew Hartzell and his partner Jessica Ashman, daughter-in-law, Janelle Yoder, nine grandchildren - Josh Yoder, Joy Talleksen and husband Rob, Joanna Hill and husband Tim, Emily Kreps and husband Gabriel, Elya Shaheen, Luke Shaheen, Seth Shaheen and wife Holly, Noah and Jemma Yoder and step-grandson, Nolan Hartzell, three great-grandchildren - Judah and Sonja Kreps and Owen Tallaksen, his brothers, Ray Yoder, Roy Yoder, Rich Yoder and his wife, Rachel, and his sister, June Shenk and husband Nelson, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In 1958, Harold brought his family to Easton, PA, where he worked for various delivery companies until becoming a milkman for Stocker Brothers Dairy for 13.5 years. He delivered milk, a cheerful “good morning” and was often heard whistling while he worked. He sang for many years with the Franconia Choral Singers, performing Handel’s Messiah every year. He was a wonderful “band parent” following his children around on trips with the EAHS Marching Band. In 1979, Harold moved from Easton to Spruce Lake Retreat, Canadensis, PA, and was the Maintenance Director until he retired.

To know Harold was to be welcomed as a life-long friend. He knew no strangers. Harold loved many things but love for his Lord and Savior, his family, friends and music were at the top of the list.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM June 25 at Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, 320 Musser Rd, Mount Joy, PA 17552. The family will greet family and friends from 12:30 - 1:30 PM Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to:

John William Kramer, 83, of Marietta passed away on June 3, 2022. He was born in Bainbridge, raised in Maytown, and was the son of the late David and Florence Steffy Kramer.

John worked at ITT Grinnell in Columbia until his eventual retirement. He was also an avid buyer and seller of antiques and even had his own store in Marietta. John enjoyed the outdoors and adored his family who will remember him for his smile and endearing sense of humor.

John leaves behind his two daughters, Kim, wife of Chuck Brehm of York, Jean, wife of Spencer Schemel of Lititz; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Rosemary, on April 30, 2022. Also, preceding John are four siblings, Frank Kramer, Wallace Kramer, Pearl Barton, and Elizabeth Jamil.

A homemaker, she attended the Wrightsville Assembly of God and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for putting others before herself.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather R. wife of Jonathan Heiland, Wrightsville; grandchildren, Devon, Julius, Landon, Samantha, and Jessica Yohe; adopted son, Steve husband of Samantha Yohe; best friend William Lewis; brother Gene Yohe; sisters Ruth Nace, Linda Wood and Bev Barnett. She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Getz, Elwood Yohe, Richard Yohe, James Yohe and Rose Yohe.

Mary Ann Daly, 83, of St. Anne’s Retirement Community passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Penn Medicine LGH. Born in Cumberland MD, she was the wife of Martin P. Daly, whom she married on February 19, 1966. She honorably served her country in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army as a registered nurse.  She was a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps where she met Martin in Honolulu, HI in 1965.  After raising her three children, she went back to work as a home healthcare nurse for 20 years before retiring with her husband.  

She is survived by her daughters Fayanne Hooning (John) of Evergreen, CO and Catherine Wimpsett (Wessley) of York, PA and by her son Joseph Daly (Mary Frances) of Alexandria, VA, as well as by her grandchildren Johnny and Jake Hooning and James, Henry, and William Daly. She is also survived by her siblings Tom Nally (Mary) of Springfield, VA, Linda Feldman of Gettysburg, PA, and Margaret George of Oak Harbor, WA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located at 409 Cherry Street, Columbia, PA, with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church 30 minutes prior to the Mass. Glenn D. “Lizard” Shultz, 75, a lifelong Columbian, passed away at Susquehanna Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where he resided for the past 11 years.  He was the son of the late Robert Shultz, Sr. and Dorita R. Doerrer-Shultz and the brother of the late, Robert Shultz, Jr. 

He was the proud father of his only daughter, Kimberly C. Shultz and grandson, Dean J. A. Greer “16”. 

Glenn enjoyed hearing his daughter Kim singing and was very proud of his grandson, Dean.  His hobbies included playing cards and bowling with friends.  He worked for 30+ years as a janitor between the former Grinnell in Columbia and Donsco in Wrightsville, and numerous part time jobs cleaning local banks and churches.  He took pride in his work and enjoyed what he did.

Glenn was a member of Columbia Fish & Game and the Hambones Social Club in the past.   He enjoyed going out to the islands on the river with family and friends, as well as vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland while he was still married to Kim’s mom, Mary Ann, whom he loved up until the end.

He had deep religious beliefs with his Lord & Savior.  He ran cross country for Columbia Jr/Sr High School where he never gave up.  Glenn always finished the race no matter what; even if he came in last every race. 

 Glenn had a lot of get up and go, strength, great work ethic, courage, and perseverance.  He was inducted into the William “Bill” Mable Courageous Athlete Award Columbia Sport’s Hall of Fame which he was so very proud.  He also enjoyed singing in choir of churches he belonged to over the years. 

Services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Powers, officiating.  A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. 

Please wear GREEN in honor of Glenn, as it was his favorite color.  MASKS are optional, but not required.

If you can not attend the viewing or services, please come to the luncheon and fellowship following at the Columbia Presbyterian Church, 360 Locust Street, Columbia, PA.  Note, there is parking behind the church in the alley and beside the church in the parking lot.  There are parking meters along the streets which cost $.25 for 30 minutes and free with a handicapped placard.

In addition to his mother are his children, Melissa Strube; Andrew Strube; Stacey wife of Eric Brooks; Ashley Dellet; Kayla Trout; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and his brother, W. Michael Strube. His sister Patricia Raley preceded him in death.

Head, NC. To her family, she was a fierce lioness that protected her

family. Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter,

Cliff was a self-employed contractor retiring in 1994. He attended Faith United Methodist Church in Hellam, PA. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran who proudly served his country and was a Veteran of the VietNam War. He was a member of the Kreutz Creek Valley VFW Post #7045 in Hellam, PA.

Surviving besides his wife is a Son: Clifford D. Logan, Jr. husband of Kimberly of York, PA., Daughter: Karrianne wife of Bernie Stewart of Florida, Grandsons: Hunter & Bryce Logan and Devon Lentz, Brothers: Edward husband of Beverly Logan of York, PA and Sam husband of Cindy Logan of Wrightsville, PA. He was predeceased by a Sister: Sharon “Sue” Logan and a Brother: Frank “Tic” Logan.

Vincent C. Metzger, Sr., 73, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Wanda Oberholtzer Metzger with whom he was married 53 years. He was the son of the late William, Sr. and Jean DeCarlo Metzger.

In addition to his wife are two sons, Vincent C. Metzger, Jr. partner of Shelly Pohle; Christian J. husband of Katie (King) Metzger; Two grandchildren, Trevor and Hope Metzger; brothers, William husband of Linda, David Metzger and sister Karen, wife of Sam Lockard.

Vince was a life-long Columbian and belonged to St. Peter's Church. After graduating from Columbia High School, he went on to study Pre-Med at Elizabethtown College and Computer Science at Penn State University. His education took a hiatus in the middle when he was drafted. Vince proudly served as a Marine for 12 years and was Honorably Discharged.

He went on to have a stellar 30-year career with Caterpillar and held several positions throughout management. Vince started and operated Metzger's Janitorial business for 28 years. He also spent time at Chapman Ford in Columbia. He loved his community and being part of Susquehanna Beneficial (Marietta), American Legion and Columbia Jaycees. As an avid Crimson Tide fan, he belonged to the legendary "4-Horseman" of Columbia basketball (Vince Metzger, Bill Metzger, Wayne Kauffman, Greg Smith).

In life, Vince loved his family fiercely. He was incredibly proud of his two boys and instantly fell in love with his grandson Trevor who was born 5 months ago. He was an avid lover of cats (and all animals) and had adopted several over the years. Most of all, he loved his wife who were high school sweethearts. Vince fought with everything he had to get this far in life, and he did it for his family.

Second St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Saturday, May 14, 2022 promptly at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow with military honors in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. John Richard “Dick” Hilt, 92, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 2, 2022. Born in Mountville, he was the son of the late Samuel and Catherine (Kuhns) Hilt and loving husband of Joan Marie Hilt with whom he was married for 70 years. 

Dick graduated from Columbia High School, Class of 1948. He worked as a maintenance electrician for Armstrong World Industries until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church. Dick enjoyed cooking, candy making, spending time in the mountains, deer hunting, and feeding the birds who visited his yard. He was known and will be remembered for his booming voice and big bear hugs.  

In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his children, John R. Hilt, Jr., husband of Sharon; Jay R. Hilt, husband of Judy; and James R. Hilt, husband of Wendy; and his many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joann Marie Hilt, and his sister, Anna Hoffman. 

There will be a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster. There will be a public viewing starting at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Centerville Pet Rescue, 237 Centerville Road, Lancaster, PA 17603. Anna M. Detwiler, 80, of Columbia passed away on May 3, 2022. She was born in Columbia to the late George and Eleanor Detwiler and was a lifelong resident of this area. Anna attended Penn Manor High School and was well known within the community she resided in. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who adored her family.

Anna leaves behind two daughters, Jane Harbough of Columbia, Gina, wife of Alan Moss of Conestoga; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Rutt.

In honor of Anna’s final wishes there will be no formal services.

Kathryn M. Strickler, 97, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at home. She was the wife of the late J. Bard Strickler with whom she was married 56 years until his death in 2005. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late David and Ruth Miller Beaner.

Kathryn was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda J. Strickler; Darlene, wife of George Ruth; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother George Beaner and sister Lydia Beaner. Her son Brian Strickler and five siblings preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Greg Impink, officiating. Joyce M. Shireman, 81, of Marietta, passed away at home on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Mervin and Elva Linard and wife of Charles D. Shireman, with whom she married for 62 years. 

Joyce was owner and operator of a daycare that she ran out of her home for many years. Her life centered around children; she loved being around them and caring for them. She rarely missed her grandchildren’s sporting events. Joyce was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Fire Company and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post #466 in Marietta. She enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steele novels, and loved spending time on the beach at Ocean City, Maryland. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver. 

In addition to her husband, Joyce is survived by her sons, Charles D. Shireman, Jr. (Kelly); Steven C. Shireman (Stacey); 5 grandchildren: Dustin, Evan, Travis, Kyle, and Kirsten; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Jerome Linard (Dolores), Jay Linard (Sharon), Jack Linard; sisters, Judy Bass (late Carl), and Joanne Ruhl (Jeff). 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut Street, Columbia. The family will begin to receive friends at 10:00 AM. A committal service will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia. Carl L. Grab, Jr., 84, of Columbia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 18, 2022. Carl was born in Columbia on September 7, 1937 and was the son of the late Carl L. Grab, Sr., and Rose Brown Grab.

Known in Columbia as "Knuckles", Carl graduated from Columbia High School in 1955, and after serving as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force he attended both F&M College and Millersville University. Carl worked as a Foreman at Fruehauf Corporation in Middletown for many years, and after retiring he enjoyed working part time for several years at John Herr's in Millersville, PA. Carl enjoyed almost any kind of outdoor activity-particularly golf and WVU Mountaineer Football games-but he was most of all a committed family man who was deeply involved in the lives of his three children and nine grandchildren. He took full and frequent advantage of any opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, and he particularly loved the annual family vacations taken with his wife Catherine, children and grandchildren in Holden Beach, NC. Carl's unique combination of intelligence (his breadth of knowledge on esoteric subjects was legendary among family and friends), humor, and strength was beloved by his family and close friends, and he will be deeply missed. Carl and Catherine have a large extended family and many good friends who have been a tremendous source of support to both of them during his recent illness.

Carl is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Catherine, and their three children: Daughter, Karen L. Waechter, wife of Ralph, of Wexford, PA; son, Michael S. Grab, husband of Maggie, of Columbia; and daughter Beth A. Bossert, wife of Bill, of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Carl M. Grab, Molly C. Grab, Christopher R. Grab, Annie L. Grab, Benjamin M. Waechter, Samuel J. Waechter, Emily C. Waechter, Nathan A. Bossert and Lauren E. Bossert.

A Memorial Service for Carl will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512.

Shirley Ann Oberdorff, 88, of Columbia passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 26, 2022. She was born in Lancaster to the late Roger and Christine Benedict and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Shirley was a graduate of Manheim Township High School with the Class of 1952 and was also co-owner of the former Villa Mar Hotel in Wrightsville for almost thirty years. Shirley Volunteered with Lancaster General Hospital for over twenty years before being employed. She then continued to volunteer after her retirement.

Shirley leaves behind her children, Troy, husband of Julianne Oberdorff of Harrisonburg, VA, Kristy, wife of Greg Lincoln of Columbia; six grandchildren, Zachary Cross, Alexa Townsley, Danielle Lincoln, Jordann Oberdorff, Devin Oberdorff, Cole Oberdorff; seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Norman McMullen and Barry Oberdorff; her son, Barry McMullen; a brother, Richard Benedict.
