Joseph H. Nikolaus

Joe was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Holy Name Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2294 since 1958 and serving as Grand Knight from 1991-1993

visitation will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 8, 2024.

Final commendation and farewell will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.

 

Joseph H. Nikolaus aged 88 passed away on Sunday May 26, 2024 at the home of his son David in Palm Bay Florida. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Nikolaus and Anna (Crom) Nikolaus. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann (Roth) Nikolaus.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa (Nikolaus) Martin and her husband George Martin; a son David Nikolaus and his wife Mary Ann (Morrison) Nikolaus, four grandchildren Andrew Nikolaus, Jordan Nikolaus, Lindsay (Martin) Distasi wife of Michael Distasi, Heather Martin, and two great-grandchildren Madelyn Nikolaus and Olivia Nikolaus.

Joe attended Lancaster Catholic High School and St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia. He Owned and managed H.E. Crom Inc. beer distributing business, during which time he was a VP of the Pennsylvania Beverage Distributors Association. He then changed careers to work as an Advisor for Community Services from where he retired.

He was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Holy Name Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2294 since 1958 and serving as Grand Knight from 1991-1993. He later served as a District Deputy for four Councils in District 61 and was also a member of the fourth degree of Santa Maria Assembly 091 since 1981 and served in the Honor Guard.

Joe was also active in his community as a Columbia Zoning Hearing Board member, Judge of Elections, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Columbia Historical Society.

He also served six years in the local Pennsylvania National Guard Battery C and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2435 and a member of the Catholic War Vets Post 1306.

A visitation will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 8, 2024.
